New York, Sept 22: The high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly commenced here today. 
This year's General Assembly focuses primarily on the theme: "Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Works for All." Heads of government and representatives from around the world will discuss issues such as widespread conflicts, the threat of nuclear weapons, extreme poverty, and the humanitarian and infrastructural damage caused by the climate crisis. 
A Nepali delegation led by Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal is participating in the high-level general debate. The delegation includes Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, Head of the Permanent Mission Lok Bahadur Thapa, other members of the visiting team, and mission staff. 
Prime Minister Balendra Shah is scheduled to address the general debate on Thursday afternoon. The Nepali delegation is expected to focus on the hardships Nepal faces due to climate change, as well as issues regarding climate justice and the Loss and Damage Fund. 
Additionally, Nepal is set to present its views on the global stage regarding world peace, non-alignment, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), gender equality and social inclusion.
