Ghorahi (Dang), Nov 6: Lumbini province government is to run programmes to end child marriage in all local levels of the province with an objective of making province child-marriage free. 

The Lumbini province government has issued conditional grant implementation procedure to end child marriage, 2083 to effectively implement the conditional grant provided to local levels for fiscal year 2083/84.

As per the procedure, sub-metropolis, municipalities and rural municipalities within the province through their respective bodies have to launch programmes in order to end child marriage. 

Students from class six to grade 12 in schools, girls aged 12-18 years, who are out of school, and their guardians would be the most-target groups of the programmes. Similarly, teachers would also be participated in the programmes. 

The procedure mentioned that programmes making targeted people aware about social, educational, health and legal impacts from child marriage should be launched. 

The grant provided by the province government should be sent in all wards if possible. Arrangement has been made to collect annual statistics about the status of child marriage, to run the programmes focusing settlements, communities and wards with high rates of child marriage. 

Similarly, the procedure has the arrangement that maximum 15 per cent of the grant amount could be spent for the publicity of programmes in local radio, television, online and newspaper. 

According to Lumbini province government, the procedure has been issued with an objective of preparing basis for making province child-marriage free, protecting and promoting child rights and bring change in mindset and behaviour of children, guardians, teachers and social and religious leaders against child marriage.
