Kathmandu, Oct 6: President of the Parliamentary Special Committee on the Impacts of Climate Change in the Himalayas, Climate Justice and Bhotekoshi-Trishuli Disaster under the House of Representatives,   Ganesh Parajuli, said the disaster-affected citizens need to be made feel that the State is standing with them in critical times. 
In today's meeting of the Committee, he noted the citizens who have lost their family members and properties due to disaster should be rendered with relief as well as other essential services immediately when festivals are fast approaching. 
Parajuli argued that the committee's responsibility is not merely limited to prepare a report on the issues of disaster, calling for preparing a plan of action to build capacity to tackle such disaster in future with immediate relief and rehabilitation. 
Saying that the disaster occurred in Bhotekoshi-Trishuli area is of different nature than normal floods occurred before, he emphasized the need to give appropriate name to the disaster. 
He added there is no evidence that Nepal had experienced such calamity before four to five hundred years ago.
"A study is necessary to determine whether or not climate change is behind such calamity. Nepal's contributions to climate change should be highlighted while raising issues of climate change in the international arena," he argued. 
After discussion with ministers and representatives from Home Ministry, Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, he urged the committee members to recommend corrective measures after pinpointing weaknesses surfaced in rescue, relied, health and other service and facility in disaster-affected areas.
