Budhigandaki Floods: Army Conducts Rescue Operations
Kathmandu, Oct 11: The Nepali Army has been carrying out rescue operations in coordination with local residents and other security agencies. A rescue team has been deployed to the area affected by the sudden floods in Budhigandaki River of Gorkha.
The Army's Directorate of Public Relations and Information stated that troops are currently deployed to the affected area via both air and land routes, and further search and rescue efforts are underway in collaboration with other security agencies and locals.
The Army team was deployed after a sudden flood after the Budhigandaki River broke through a landslide-induced blockage at Philim in Chumnubri Rural Municipality-3, Gorkha, around 4:30 am today. The floods has rushed downstream carrying sludge and debris, causing damage to the human settlements and roads on the riverbanks.
The Directorate reported that four helicopters, including the Nepali Army's Mi-17, as well as ground troops, have been deployed to rescue those affected by the flood.
So far, a total of 36 people have been rescued including six from the Jagat area, nine from Nyakphedi, nine from Yaru and 12 from Payu.
